Marseille, France

The cruise liner “Azura” calls at around 8 am in the port of Marseille. Three hours later, he was checked by the ship security center. The inspectors note that the boat used a fuel with a sulfur content of 1.68%, higher than the authorized limit (1.5%).

The control carried out on the Azura highlighted the fact that the ship had loaded the day before in Barcelona (Spain) a fuel with a sulfur content of 1.75% before calling at Marseilles.

However, the investigation would reveal that one of the tanks of the ship containing fuel was not coupled to the scrubber, (device intended to absorb and neutralize toxic or corrosive particles or gases on board ships.) Thus preventing lower the emission of sulfur into the air.
